The Route, Day by Day
Each leg of the journey mapped out — where the day takes you, what's actually on the ground, and things to consider when planning this tour.
Arrival in Canggu
Land in Bali, grab your bag, and find your way to the hostel in Canggu. You'll meet the rest of the crew in the evening before heading out. The first night is a group affair in Canggu, a town known for its chaotic energy and solid nightlife.

DIY Reality Check: All foreign tourists must pay a mandatory IDR 150,000 Foreign Tourist Levy before or upon entering Bali. While payment can be made at airport counters, the provincial government strongly recommends paying online beforehand via the official "Love Bali" system to avoid potentially long queues after a flight. The primary friction for independent travelers is navigating a landscape of convincing scam websites that overcharge for the service; the only legitimate portal is the government's, identifiable by its `.go.id` domain. This levy is also a separate requirement from the Visa-on-Arrival and its associated fee, creating another administrative layer for travelers to manage themselves upon arrival. A coordinated trip handles these pre-travel administrative requirements, ensuring all official levies are paid through the proper channels.
Surf Day in Canggu
You're on an island famous for its waves, so today is about surfing. The morning starts with a lesson for all levels, getting the basics down on the sand before you hit the water with instructors. After that, the afternoon is yours. Rent a board to keep at it, hit the beach, or just grab a Bintang at a local *warung* (small restaurant).

Temples and Village Life
Time to leave the coast and head for the hills. The first stop is the Ulun Danu Temple, which seems to float on the edge of Lake Beratan. From there, the drive continues to Bulian village. You'll be welcomed with lunch before a walk through the village to get a feel for the place. The day ends with learning to make traditional Balinese offerings and joining a local priest for a ceremony at a nearby temple.

DIY Reality Check: The day’s journey from the coast into Bali’s central highlands presents a significant logistical challenge for independent travelers. The multi-stop route from Canggu to Ulun Danu Temple and then onward to Bulian village requires hiring a private driver for the full day, a process that involves vetting a reliable operator and negotiating a rate for a 10- to 12-hour commitment. While ride-hailing apps exist, they are ill-suited for complex itineraries with multiple waiting periods and can be difficult to secure for return trips from remote areas. Furthermore, while accommodation in Bulian village may be found on booking sites, the immersive welcome lunch, guided walk, and spiritual ceremony with a local priest are not standard tourist offerings. These deeper cultural exchanges are typically built on long-standing community relationships, making them largely inaccessible to travelers attempting to arrange them independently. A coordinated trip handles the complex, multi-leg transit and provides access to these pre-secured community and spiritual experiences.
