Time to trade the city grit for island sand. An overland journey gets you to the coast at Sihanoukville, where you'll hop a ferry for the final leg to Koh Rong. You're staying right on a private beach. Drop your bags, grab a drink, and hit the warm water. The afternoon is all about easing into island time.

You have a full, unstructured day on a pristine Cambodian island. What you do with it is up to you. If you're feeling active, there's hiking, fishing, or kayaking. If not, the beach and a good book are waiting. There's no agenda beyond enjoying your last full day in this spot before heading back to the mainland.

It's back to the mainland today. After a morning ferry, a two-hour drive takes you inland to the rural Chambok community. This is a chance to see a different side of Cambodia. You'll be staying with a local family, wandering around the village, and sharing a home-cooked Cambodian meal for dinner. It's a low-key, immersive experience.

This is a big travel day. A five-hour drive gets you to the border, where you'll get your passport stamped out of Cambodia and into Vietnam. From there, it's another two hours by bus to Ho Chi Minh City. Check into the backpacker hostel, drop your bags, and if you have the energy, head to Ben Thanh Market for some souvenir hunting before finding the nightlife.

Get a feel for the chaos of Vietnam's biggest city on a morning orientation walk. Afterwards, you've got free time to dive back into the streets, haggle in the markets, or just find a cafe and watch the traffic flow. Don't wander too far; tonight you're catching the overnight train north to the coastal city of Nha Trang.

You'll wake up as the train pulls into Nha Trang. This is Vietnam's classic beach resort town. The day is yours to explore. Your best moves are hitting the beach, checking out the local markets, or heading for a therapeutic mud bath. The evening plan is a street food crawl to sample the local seafood and other specialties.

You get one more day to enjoy Nha Trang. Use the free time to do anything you missed yesterday, whether that's more beach time, a spa treatment, or just wandering the city. In the evening, it's back to the train station to board another overnighter. This one takes you up the coast toward Da Nang.

The train arrives in Da Nang, but you're not staying long. A short one-hour drive delivers you to the picturesque port town of Hoi An. After an orientation walk through the lantern-lit Old Town, the afternoon is free. This is the place to get clothes custom-made by a local tailor, so if you're interested, don't wait. Tonight, the crew heads to a riverside bar to trade stories before hitting the dance floor.

This morning is dedicated to noodles. You'll visit a local cooking school for a hands-on lesson in making some of the 26 different types of noodles found in the city. After you've eaten your creations, the rest of the day is free. You can use the time for an optional trip to the My Son ruins, a boat trip on the Thu Bon River, or just more time exploring Hoi An's alleys.

You're heading north again, this time to the former imperial capital of Huế. The drive itself is part of the experience, with a stop at the scenic Hai Van Pass for views over the coast. Once in Huế, the afternoon is free. You can explore the massive Royal Citadel and its tombs, take a cruise on the Perfume River, or rent a motorbike to see the countryside like a local.

You have a final free morning in Huế to tick off anything you missed. In the afternoon, it's time for another scenic drive. The route takes you through Vietnam's rural countryside, heading towards the dramatic limestone mountains of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park. You'll arrive in the evening and check into the hotel, ready to explore the park tomorrow.

Today is all about going underground. You have a full day to explore the incredible cave systems of Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, home to Asia's oldest karst mountains. The main options are visiting Paradise Cave, one of the longest in Asia, or taking a boat into Phong Nha Cave. After a full day of exploring, you'll catch one last overnight train to Hanoi.

The train pulls into Hanoi early, but you're just passing through for now. A private bus takes you straight out to the coast for a day trip to Ha Long Bay. You'll board a traditional junk boat for a cruise among the thousands of limestone karsts rising from the water. The trip includes a seafood lunch on board and a stop to explore one of the bay's caves before heading back to the mainland for the night.

After the drive back from Ha Long, you finally get to explore Hanoi. An orientation walk takes you through the maze-like streets of the Old Quarter. The afternoon is free to wander, shop, or relax. The only real plan for the evening is to head to Bia Hoi Corner, pull up a tiny plastic stool, and drink fresh, cheap local draft beer with the locals.

It's time to pack your bags and say goodbye to the crew. Swap phone numbers and Instagram handles for the last time. The trip officially ends after breakfast, and you're free to depart at any time or extend your stay in Hanoi.
