What Coordinating This Route Involves

Juggling the logistics for this route means booking 14 nights of accommodation across eight different properties, plus eight separate transport legs to cover the 863 kilometres. Then there are the 15 included activities to arrange and pay for. That’s a lot of open browser tabs. The one piece a solo planner can’t reproduce, though, is the built-in small group. A coordinated trip isn’t just about making the bookings connect; it’s about having a ready-made crew to share the 16 days with from the moment you land.

Day 1 of 16

Sydney

Arrival in Sydney & First Night Out

Land in Sydney, grab your bags, and find your way to the hostel. Drop your stuff and meet the rest of the crew that evening. The first meeting point is usually the hostel bar, which gets lively after dark. If you land early, a walk through the historic 'The Rocks' district is a solid way to kill a few hours.

Day 2 of 16

Sydney

A Free Day in Sydney

You've got a full free day to see Sydney on your own terms. The classic moves are a ferry ride across the harbour for that postcard view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, or a train out to Bondi Beach to see the scene. Your best bet is to pick one and do it well; trying to do everything is a recipe for a frantic day.

Day 3 of 16

Sydney to Arrawarra

North to the Surf Camp

It's a travel day today. The morning starts with boarding a northbound train that traces the coast out of Sydney. It's a long ride, so grab a window seat and watch the city sprawl give way to coastal bushland. After pulling into Coffs Harbour, a short 30-minute transfer gets you to Arrawarra and the Spot X Surf Camp, your home for the next couple of nights. Settle in; the real trip starts here.

Been to Sydney to Arrawarra, North to the Surf Camp? Create an account and share your photos with other travelers planning this trip.

Day at a glance

  • Travel north from Sydney by train, watching the coastal scenery.
  • A 30-minute overland journey from Coffs Harbour to Arrawarra.
  • Settle in for two nights at a dedicated surf camp.
  • Accommodation: Spot X Surf Camp (Lodge)
  • Included Meals: Dinner

DIY Reality Check: The journey from Coffs Harbour station to the surf camp at Arrawarra presents a classic "last mile" problem. For an independent traveler, this 34-kilometer transfer requires choosing between a taxi, which can cost upwards of $90, or navigating the local bus schedule. While public buses do service the route, they run infrequently—only four or five times a day—creating a potential hours-long wait if your train arrival doesn't align perfectly. This is on top of navigating NSW TrainLink's strict luggage policy, which limits bags to 20kg per item and has specific dimensional rules that can catch travelers out. A coordinated trip eliminates this entire chain of logistical hurdles, with a pre-arranged vehicle waiting at the station.
