Egypt: Pyramids, Temples & the Nile

An early morning flight connects Cairo to Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes. On arrival, the route heads north to the well-preserved Dandara temple complex. After the visit, board the dahabiya sailboat that serves as your residence for a five-night Nile cruise. The afternoon is spent on Luxor's East Bank, exploring the two great temple complexes that define the city. First, explore the sprawling site of Karnak, a vast collection of sanctuaries and pylons built over two millennia. An early start is required for the day trip to Abu Simbel, handled by air to avoid the long overland drive. A short flight from Aswan brings you to the site of the two great rock-cut temples of Ramesses II and his queen, Nefertari. The temples are as much a marvel of modern engineering as ancient ambition, having been relocated in a massive UNESCO project in the 1960s.

After exploring the site, the itinerary involves a return flight to Aswan to connect with a flight back to Cairo.
