The Ligurian Coast & Cinque Terre

The route turns west for an overland journey from Venice, crossing the Emilia-Romagna and Liguria regions to La Spezia, the port city that serves as the gateway to the Cinque Terre. From La Spezia, a local train provides the primary access to the five cliffside villages. The afternoon presents a choice: a guided hike along a section of the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail) from Monterosso to Vernazza, a 3km path with a significant 230m elevation change offering classic coastal views. The alternative is to continue exploring the villages by train, hopping between the distinct communities of the UNESCO World Heritage site before returning to a base in La Spezia.
