The Route, Day by Day
Each leg of the journey mapped out — where the day takes you, what's actually on the ground, and things to consider when planning this tour.
Arrival in Playa del Carmen
Arrival is into Cancún airport (CUN), followed by a private, one-hour transfer south to Playa del Carmen. You'll check into the Hyatt Centric, a property situated just off the town's main pedestrian thoroughfare, Quinta Avenida. The afternoon is for settling in before a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Hacienda Life & Henequen
A private vehicle takes you west from the coast, deep into the Yucatán's interior. The destination is Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, a restored and working henequen plantation that serves as a base for the next few days. The property operates much as it did historically, cultivating the agave variety known locally as 'green gold'.
Lunch is a demonstration of regional cooking, featuring cochinita pibil slow-roasted underground in a traditional pib oven. Afterwards, a private tour of the grounds covers the history of henequen production, from the fields to the rope-making factory, before you retire to your room.

Cenote Cycling & Mérida
The day is spent exploring the Yucatán's iconic cenotes, the natural limestone sinkholes that form a vast subterranean river system. From the hacienda, a short drive leads to a state reserve where you'll cycle between three different cenotes, with time for swimming in the cool, clear water of each one.
After a local lunch, the afternoon continues to Mérida, the capital of the Yucatán state. A brief, guided city tour covers the colonial architecture of the Plaza de la Independencia and the fortress-like cathedral before the return drive to the hacienda for dinner.

DIY Reality Check: Replicating this day's three-part journey requires stitching together transport between the hacienda, the cenote reserve in Homún, and Mérida's historic center. While public buses and `colectivos` connect Mérida to Homún, they don't serve the direct route from the hacienda's location, forcing a time-consuming detour back through the city. A rental car is the most direct alternative, but introduces the challenge of navigating Mérida's colonial grid of one-way streets and finding scarce, legal parking—with yellow curb zones being strictly enforced tow-away areas. Arranging taxis for the full 100km+ loop is another option, but at a significant cost. A trip that coordinates a single private vehicle for the entire day-long circuit removes this entire chain of logistical hurdles.
