Arrival in Tangier
Day 1 of 14Arrive in Tangier at any time. The city serves as Morocco's primary gateway to Europe, a port with a layered history of international influence. After settling in, a solid first exploration is an orientation walk through the old town's labyrinthine alleys, getting a feel for the city's coastal energy.

The Blue City via Tetouan
Day 2 of 14The day begins with an overland journey from Tangier, breaking for a stop in Tetouan. Its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a maze of white-washed walls and Andalusian influence. Explore El Feddan Square and the historic Mellah before continuing the drive south.
The road pushes into the Rif Mountains, arriving in Chefchaouen. A walk through the town's famous blue-painted streets reveals its unique Hispano-Moorish architecture. The route climbs past the 15th-century kasbah, finishing with a sunset view over the city from the Spanish Mosque.

Rif Mountains and on to Fès
Day 3 of 14Start the day with a short but rugged hike in the Rif Mountains. The 7km trail follows a rocky footpath through fields of fig trees, passing small waterfalls and streams at an elevation of 500-600 meters. The walk leads to a local family's farm for a hands-on lesson in making traditional goat cheese.
After the farm visit, the route continues towards Fès with a stop in the lesser-known town of Ouazzane. Its medina is notable for its unique neon-mint green walls. The day ends with an early evening arrival in Fès, with the rest of the night free.

Into the Fès Medina
Day 4 of 14A full day is needed to even begin to understand the Fès medina, one of the world's largest, with over 9,000 streets. A guided walk is the only practical way to navigate the chaos. The route winds through artisans' quarters, past carpenters and spice sellers, to landmarks like the 9th-century Al Qarawiyin University. The tour finishes with a view from a leather shop balcony overlooking the famous Chouara Tannery, where men work dyeing hides in stone vessels. Lunch is independent, with plenty of options inside the medina. The day concludes with dinner at a local restaurant, sampling regional specialties.

Roman Ruins and Imperial Meknes
Day 5 of 14The 4.5-hour overland journey from Fès to Casablanca is broken up by two significant historical stops. The first is Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site with impressively preserved Roman ruins. A local guide can explain the history of the mosaics, bathhouses, and marble pillars that mark the Roman Empire's reach. The second stop is the imperial city of Meknes. A tour here covers landmarks like the monumental gates of Bab Mansour and Bab El Khmiss, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the city's lively souk. The drive concludes with an evening arrival in Casablanca.

Day 6 of 14A full day exploring Casablanca reveals a city of contrasts. The tour starts at the Hassan II Mosque, the world's second largest, with its minaret towering over the Atlantic. From there, it's a dive into the historic Old Town, stopping at its oldest bakery. The route continues through the city's 20th-century history, taking in the French Colonial-era courthouse, the unique architecture of the Notre Dame Church, and the grand Mohamed V square. The day's exploration ends with a drink at a rooftop bar overlooking the city before a free evening.

Over the High Atlas to Ouarzazate
Day 7 of 14This is a long day of travel, pushing south across the country. The first leg is a 243km overland journey from Casablanca to Marrakech, a logical place to break for lunch. From Marrakech, the road begins its climb into the High Atlas Mountains, a dramatic shift in landscape from the coastal plains. The route snakes through mountain passes before descending towards Ouarzazate, a city known as the gateway to the Sahara. Arrival is in the evening, with time to settle in before dinner.

Desert Trek to Erg Lihoudi
Day 8 of 14The day begins with a look at Ouarzazate's other major industry: film. A tour of the Atlas Film Studios reveals the sets for numerous international blockbusters. Afterwards, the real journey south begins, driving through Zagora to the outpost of Mhamid, where the paved road ends. From here, it’s a two-hour walk into the Sahara, crossing the first dunes to reach the Erg Lihoudi desert camp. Arrive around sunset, with tea waiting. Dinner is served by a campfire under a sky with zero light pollution.

Camel Trek to a Desert Oasis
Day 9 of 14Wake up to a desert sunrise. After breakfast, the journey continues deeper into the Sahara. The morning offers a choice: a 2-3 hour trek on foot or by camel, moving across the dunes at a traditional pace. After a stop for lunch, the mode of transport shifts to a 4x4 vehicle for a transfer to the next campsite. This mobile camp is set up at the remote Bertam Oasis. The day ends watching the sunset over the dunes, followed by dinner and stories around the fire.

From Desert Sands to Skoura's Palms
Day 10 of 14After a final desert sunrise, the trip out of the Sahara begins with a 1-2 hour 4x4 transfer back to the town of Zagora. It's a welcome return to civilization, with time to shower off the desert dust and relax by a hotel pool before lunch. In the afternoon, the journey continues with a 3.5-hour overland drive north to Skoura. This large oasis, famous for its dense groves of date palms and historic kasbahs, offers a stark, green contrast to the sand. The evening is free to explore the town.

Return to the Red City
Day 11 of 14A straightforward travel day heads back over the mountains. The 4-5 hour overland journey from Skoura winds its way north, descending from the high country and returning to Marrakech. Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon, leaving plenty of time for independent exploration. It's a good opportunity to dive back into the medina's souks, find a quiet courtyard riad for mint tea, or simply get your bearings before the final days in the city.

Palaces and Tanjia in the Medina
Day 12 of 14The morning is dedicated to exploring key sites within the Marrakech medina. A logical route connects the tranquil Jardin Secret, a restored Islamic garden, with the opulent 19th-century Bahia Palace. The walk includes a stop at a local bakery to see traditional bread-making and to pick up a tanjia—a slow-cooked meat stew sealed in a clay pot—for a terrace lunch. The afternoon and evening are free to explore further, perhaps visiting the cobalt-blue Jardin Majorelle or getting lost in the Djemaa el-Fna market.

Day Trip to the Ouzoud Falls
Day 13 of 14A full-day excursion provides a break from the city's heat. A 2.5-hour drive leads into the Atlas foothills to Ouzoud, North Africa's highest multi-tiered waterfall. A network of paths and stairs allows for a walk from the top of the 110m falls down to the pools at the bottom, offering various viewpoints of the cascades. Lunch is at one of the simple cafes with a direct view of the water. The return to Marrakech is in the late afternoon, leaving the evening free for a final dinner in the electric atmosphere of Djemaa el-Fna square.

Day 14 of 14The journey concludes in Marrakech. Depending on your flight schedule, there may be time for some last-minute souvenir hunting in the souks or one final glass of mint tea on a rooftop terrace. Depart at any time from Marrakech-Menara Airport.
