Canadian Rockies Encompassed

Arrive in Vancouver at any time. Most international flights land by early afternoon, leaving plenty of time to get into the city and drop your bags. The Skytrain from YVR is efficient. A five-hour drive leads out of the mountains and into the dry, sunny Okanagan Valley, British Columbia's primary wine region. The day includes a stop at a local winery for a tasting and a look at the vineyards. The destination is Kelowna, a city on the shores of Okanagan Lake that has a growing reputation for food, wine, and craft breweries. The evening is free to explore the city's expanding culinary scene.

This is a long travel day, tracing a 6.5-hour route from the Okanagan back to the Coast Mountains. The drive is scenic, particularly the final stretch on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which climbs from the coast into the resort village of Whistler. The centre offers guided tours explaining the history and living culture of the two First Nations that co-inhabit the region. Following the visit, a two-hour drive down the Sea-to-Sky Highway returns you to Vancouver. The rest of the afternoon is free to revisit a favorite spot or explore a new neighborhood.
