Day 2 of 10A guided walk investigates Bergen's historic core, focusing on the Bryggen, the city's Hanseatic wharf. These brightly painted wooden warehouses, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are material evidence of the German merchant guild's trading empire from the 14th to 18th centuries. The walk concludes at the city's fish market, a continuous operation since the 13th century, for lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon is left open for independent study, with options including the extensive collections of the Kode Art Museums or a funicular ride for a topographical overview of the city and its surrounding islands.

Day 3 of 10The day is dedicated to a classic Norwegian rail journey. The Bergen Railway, one of Europe's highest mainline routes, departs the coast and climbs eastward across the Hardangervidda plateau, a starkly beautiful mountain landscape. At the remote Myrdal station, a change is made to the Flåm Line. This branch is a celebrated piece of 20th-century engineering, descending 867 meters over just 20 kilometers to the fjord below. The hour-long journey navigates a series of tunnels and switchbacks, passing sheer cliffs and waterfalls before arriving in the village of Flåm, situated at the terminus of the Aurlandsfjord.

Fjord Cruise & Farm Culture
Day 4 of 10From Flåm, a boat enters the Aurlandsfjord and continues into the Nærøyfjord, a narrow, 18-kilometer-long arm of the Sognefjord system recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The cruise offers a water-level perspective of the sheer cliffs and hanging valleys. The journey continues to the Flåm Fjord Farm, a working agricultural operation, for a tour and discussion with the family about the realities of fjord-based farming. The visit includes a seasonal, farm-to-table lunch. In the evening, a session in a floating sauna, guided by a local sauna master, provides an introduction to a deeply rooted Scandinavian cultural practice of thermal bathing.

Stave Church & Loen Skylift
Day 5 of 10An overland journey from Flåm leads to the Borgund Stave Church, the best-preserved of Norway's 28 remaining medieval wooden churches. Dated to circa 1180-1250, its complex structure of timber posts and elaborate carvings synthesizes Viking-era motifs with Christian iconography. After lunch at the adjacent museum café, the route continues toward Loen, pausing for a view of the Bøyabreen glacier, an arm of the larger Jostedalsbreen ice cap. The day concludes with an ascent on the Loen Skylift, a cable car that rises 1,011 meters from the fjord to the summit of Mount Hoven in five minutes, for dinner with panoramic views of the Nordfjord.

Geirangerfjord by Land & Sea
Day 6 of 10The drive north from Loen leads to Geiranger, one of Norway's most iconic fjord landscapes. Before descending to the village, the route climbs to the Geiranger Skywalk on Dalsnibba, a viewing platform at 1,500 meters that offers Europe's highest fjord view from a road. The perspective takes in the entirety of the Geirangerfjord against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. In the afternoon, a boat trip provides a different vantage point, navigating the fjord's deep blue waters past sheer cliffs, abandoned mountain farms, and the famous Seven Sisters waterfall. The remainder of the day is unstructured before dinner.

Day 7 of 10The morning begins at the Norwegian Fjord Centre, which documents the region's glacial geology and cultural history. Following this, the route traces the Trollstigen, or Troll's Road, a serpentine mountain pass defined by 11 hairpin bends, with stops at engineered viewpoints suspended over the valley. From the valley floor, the Romsdalen Gondola provides a silent ascent up Mount Nesaksla for lunch. The return journey to Geiranger includes a stop at the Lingebakken Apple Farm for an orchard walk and a tasting of artisanal ciders and preserves, which showcase the agricultural output of this fjord microclimate. The day ends at the Hotel Union Geiranger AS.

Olympic History & Open-Air Museum
Day 8 of 10A long overland transfer day connects the western fjords with the capital, Oslo. The route travels south between the mountain ranges of Jotunheimen and Rondane National Parks. The principal stop is in Lillehammer, host city of the 1994 Winter Olympics, for a visit to the Maihaugen Open-Air Museum. One of Norway's largest cultural institutions, Maihaugen comprises more than 200 historic buildings relocated from across the Gudbrandsdalen valley, creating a detailed tableau of Norwegian life from the Middle Ages to the present. After a guided introduction and lunch, the journey continues south, arriving in Oslo in the early evening.

Day 9 of 10A day on Oslo's Bygdøy Peninsula is dedicated to Norwegian exploration and ecology. A visit to the Fram Museum allows access to the original polar exploration vessel Fram, preserved intact. At the adjacent Kon-Tiki Museum, which houses Thor Heyerdahl's balsawood raft, a specially arranged meeting with a Heyerdahl family member or biographer provides direct context on his expeditions, many of which were documented in National Geographic magazine. The focus then shifts to contemporary urban ecology with a visit to Bybi, a local beekeeping initiative, for a discussion about their biodiversity projects. The day concludes with a final group dinner.
