This is a route for the active traveler who wants Nepal's signature landscapes—Himalayan foothills, river canyons, and subtropical jungles—stitched into a single, seamless itinerary. The logistics of combining a multi-day Annapurna trek, a two-day rafting trip, and a Chitwan safari are considerable. This path solves that, moving from porter-supported trekking lodges to a private river camp and finally to safari properties in the Terai lowlands. It's a physically demanding trip designed to let you focus on the terrain, not the transfers.

A 12-day circuit from Kathmandu combining a four-day trek in the Annapurna foothills with a Seti River rafting expedition and a wildlife safari in Chitwan National Park.

The Route, Day by Day

Each leg of the journey mapped out — where the day takes you, what's actually on the ground, and things to consider when planning this tour.

Day 1 of 12

Kathmandu

A Royal Welcome in Kathmandu

An arranged transfer from the airport leads to the Hotel Yak and Yeti, a heritage property built from a 19th-century Rana palace. The first evening is for settling in, with dinner on-site—a traditional Royal Thali meal served on silver platters, a fitting introduction to the country's dynastic history and cuisine.

Kathmandu

Artisans of the Kathmandu Valley

The day begins with a meditative wellness session at Avata Wellness, followed by a six-course vegetarian meal built around traditional Nepali herbs. From there, the focus shifts to the valley's Newari heritage. A guided walk through Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO site, reveals the intricate woodwork and pagoda architecture of the Malla dynasty.

The afternoon is spent in the nearby settlement of Kirtipur. Here, women from the community host a Newari lunch and demonstrate Ranjana Lipi, the ancient script of Nepal, offering a hands-on workshop in the traditional calligraphy before the return to Kathmandu for the evening.

Day at a glance

  • Guided tour of Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Immersive wellness experience at Avata Wellness, including a six-course meal.
  • Community-hosted lunch and Ranjana Lipi script workshop in Kirtipur.
  • Accommodation: Hotel Yak and Yeti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DIY Reality Check: The day's centerpiece is a hands-on lunch and calligraphy workshop hosted by the women of the Kirtipur Community Homestay, a specific social enterprise that an independent traveler would first need to identify, vet, and coordinate with directly. For the visit to Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO site, navigating the history requires a guide holding a specific government-issued Tourist Guide license, a credential that requires a 10-week training course and is difficult to verify amidst the informal guides at the entrance. Stitching these distinct experiences together involves arranging correctly-timed transport between a wellness center in Kathmandu, the square in Patan, and the community in Kirtipur. A fully coordinated day removes these sourcing and logistical burdens by working with a pre-vetted community partner and a licensed cultural guide.

Dhampus

The Annapurna Trek Begins

A short morning flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara marks the start of the Annapurna approach. From Pokhara, a private 4x4 vehicle handles the rough road to Phedi, the trailhead. The trek itself begins here: a three-hour, eight-kilometre ascent to the village of Dhampus at 1,700 metres. The trail climbs steadily on stone staircases through forests of rhododendron and oak.

The reward is the first clear mountain views from the trail and the destination, a mountain lodge overlooking the Phedi valley. After settling in, a walk through Dhampus village offers a first look at local life at this altitude before dinner at the lodge.
